Low weight, simple design, and bombproof weather protection define a quality tent, and the Rimrock 2 Person Tent from Easton Mountain Products is all that and more. The Rimrock 2P™ Tent provides you with an easy-to-use, effective shelter that can adapt to your various backpacking pursuits, all without breaking the bank.

On Performance & Design…
Easton Mountain Products designed the Rimrock 2-Person Tent to be spacious yet lightweight (just under six pounds), stable, and durable for three-season trips.  Once you divvy up this freestanding tent with your hiking buddy, you’ll only carry a couple pounds each and fly like the wind through the woods on your next camping excursion.  Premium 7075 T9 aluminum poles play a big role in that light weight offering, helping ensure a thoughtful design without the burdensome weight penalty.

That light weight might just encourage you to hike in a few more miles which means by the time you make camp, daylight may be a precious commodity.  Fear not my backwoods friend, because the Rimrock’s Quick Clip fly attachment hooks make for an easy setup with Velcro tabs and grommets to secure the fly to the frame.  For our crew, this ensured an easy set up, which was especially helpful in bad weather and low light.

Once your backwoods residence is set up, dual doors with one-hand zippers make it easy to get in and out without disturbing your tent mate.  A full mesh upper keeps hungry alpine mosquitoes away while also allowing you to enjoy panoramic views once the storm clouds pass.  Then again, if those clouds refuse to move, the Rimrock has you covered with a water-resistant ripstop nylon fly to help keep the elements where they belong – outside.

Size Matters…
As a backpacker measuring in at over six foot, the crux of any tent review always hinges on the available interior space.  Clearly, there’s no shortage of two person tents on the market that claim a ‘spacious interior.’  However, when you are 6’3” and packing in with a buddy, those two person “castles” have a tendency to quickly reveal your unresolved issues with claustrophobia.

That’s one reason our team appreciated the three-pole design and steep walls of the Rimrock which maximize usable living space.  So whether you’re an average size hiker, or a rangy explorer that people confuse with Sasquatch, the Rimrock offers comfortable sleeping space for all of your nights in the great outdoors.

Notes from the Field…
As with any gear, the details matter.  For a better experience with the Rimrock 2P tent, you’ll want to ensure that you set it up correctly.  To do so, make sure that the shorter poles go through the sleeves then over each of the perimeter poles.  This will help create better support for the tent and the rainfly, ensuring you have a better experience and the tent is used to its full capacity.

Part of the Rimrock’s beauty is the ease of setup.  That being said, when setting up the tent solo, we  did have difficulty with the poles popping out of the corner grommets.  While not a deal breaker, it can be frustrating when, after a long day on the trail, all you want to do is pitch your tent ASAP and sack out.

Bottom Line…
The Rimrock 2P™ Tent sets up in a flash, doesn’t weigh you down, and is ready to stand up to season after season of backcountry abuse.  End result?  More time to enjoy the simplicity and serenity of the great outdoors on your next backcountry excursion.
