The SoLite 250 from Light and Motion

Versatility, utility, and straight-up power. The Solite 250 from Light and Motion will light your way whether you are pushing through the night to catch a sunrise summit, setting up camp after dark, or pounding the pavement before the rooster crows.

On Performance and Design…
What starts out as a quick online search for your next ‘headlamp’ can quickly turn into hours of scrolling through pages and pages of options along with the obligatory bullet points describing lumens, power and purpose.  Who knew you could find the end of the internet just by searching for the right light?

Designed to function as a headlamp, flashlight, bike light, helmet light and even a free standing light, the Light and Motion Solite 250 is the multisport marvel that’s ready to put your days of searching to an end. Consider it your packable, dependable illumination that can handle a little tough love.  Select from three different power modes to fit changing conditions and activities so you’re ready for everything from a nighttime training run to a multi-day adventure race.

Powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack, the Solite 250 will give you up to 100 hours of useable light.  The fact that it can only be charged through a micro-USB cable is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand it means you’ll never need to worry about rummaging through the cabin closet hoping your brother-in-law left some AA’s around.  On the other hand, it could mean that you get left out in the dark on your multi-day journey along the Pacific Coast Trail.

Light and Motion

That being said, over the course of our testing, the 100 hours of luminous goodness never left us in the dark.  Of course if our word doesn’t soothe your worrisome soul, there’s a virtual cornucopia of aftermarket backup battery solutions (rechargeable) that will plug directly into the mini-USB port on the light. Moreover, the light indicator on the battery pack always keeps your power in check and automatically switches to a lower setting when there’s 5-10% of battery power left.  What, you didn’t think a light designed by Standford grads would be smart?

Notes from the Field…
Admittedly we tend to shy away from ‘headlamps’ with a battery pack on the backside which creates additional pressure on the dome when using it as a running tool.  However, the Solite 250 came equipped with a broad headband that proved to be incredibly comfortable and alleviated any pressure that you might expect from a headlamp with a larger battery pack.

The only other critique centers on the coiled wire which connects the light to the battery pack and can prove to be adversarial.  Those gripes aside, you’ll be hard pressed to find a light that’s as versatile and bright as the Solite 250.

Bottom Line…
Packable, dependable illumination that can handle a little tough love.
