Swedish FireKnife from Light My Fire

All the world is comprised of elements and forces. Yet, two of them stand above the rest. Fire and steel. They are the two items that separate us from the animals. Together, they sparked the Industrial Revolution and modernized our world. Now, Light My Fire of Sweden has elegantly coupled them together with the flash of genius Swedish FireKnife.

On Performance and Design

Available from Industrial Revolution, the Swedish FireKnife marries the dependability of the legendary Mora blade with the sure-fire Swedish FireSteel fire starter. Consider the FireKnife a hybrid of the two brands flagship that come together to provide invaluable versatility in the field. One brilliant and simple tool that lets you gut and clean a fish, whittle your tinder, and light your campfire.

The knife itself has a 3.75-inch blade featuring the renowned Sandvik 12c27 stainless steel. A Scandinavian grind offers tremendous edge retention and control during smaller camp tasks and woodworking. But the true advantage of the Scandi-grind lies in the fact that it can be easily resharpened in the field without the necessity of a tool kit.

As we’ve mentioned before, the handle of a good knife doesn’t have to pass a beauty test, it just needs to be a comfortable size and shape with a design that ensures a definitive grip. The Swedish FireKnife not only passes that test with flying colors, but the high-friction rubber handle lets you lock in a grip even in wet conditions. And with seven vibrant color options, Light My Fire gives you the opportunity to pick the color that best fits your own unique style.

But it’s the base of the handle that makes the FireKnife a cut above other knives. Nestled within the butt of the handle is the Swedish FireSteel 2.0  Scout fire starter. At 1.5 inches long, the fire starter securely twist-locks into the rear of the handle and deploys as easily as it locks in. When deployed, simply run the spine of the knife ‘slowly down’ the  magnesium alloy fire starter and you’ll be rewarded with an array of  2,980°C sparks. Unlike matches, you can depend upon the Swedish FireSteel even when wet no matter what the altitude.

Notes from the Field

For the more minimalist minded adventurer, the integrated design of the FireKnife not only saves space, but means you aren’t as susceptible to losing your fire starter. But perhaps even better, is the fact that the combined weight of the knife, sheath and FireSteel is a meager 3.9 oz. So no matter the destination or duration, the FireKnife helps keep you light on feet.

Now, you can take exception to the fact that the FireKnife does have excessive blade flex, and some will quibbel about the rather basic polypropylene sheath. But what is undeniable is that at $39.99 the Swedish FireKnife might be the best deal in the outdoor industry.

Bottom Line…

When it comes to gear, the Swedish FireKnife is a no-brainer. As appropriate for regular camping as it is for survival situations, the Swedish FireKnife combines a legendary blade with a reliable fire steel all at a tremendous value.
