Canada Goose Trenton Softshell

“Design must be functional, and functionality must be translated into visual aesthetics without any reliance on gimmicks that have to be explained.” –  Ferdinand Porsche

On Performance and Design…
Whenever you head out the front door and into the great beyond, you face a vast array of challenges. From inclement weather, to boulder fields, even the laws of physics stand between you and your goals. But adventure doesn’t wait for a break in the weather or terrain, which is why Canada Goose designed the Trenton Softshell – a jacket that’s got your back, both literally and figuratively.

Devoid of gimmicks and features that fail to add functional value, the Trenton (available for men and women) exhibits the iconic Canada Goose styling with a clean and functional design that almost belies a myriad of technical features. An exclusive water-resistant Tri-Durance SoftShell exterior repels short-lived alpine storms and banishes howling winds from haunting your core.

All the while, this softshell remains durable without being rough or stiff so you’re protected, and never distracted on the way to your summit objectives.

Canada Goose Trenton SoftshellThe built-in-four-way stretch of the Tri-Durance HS panels breathe well during high-octane activities and coupled with an athletic cut, the Trenton allows for maximum mobility in mixed weather conditions. A low-profile, adjustable storm hood offers extra protection from Mother Nature’s more fierce side, and the recessed, Lycra stretch cuffs seal out drafts on early morning rides. And since some days require a little motivation, the internal media pocket gives you a place to stash your musical contraband.

Notes from the Field…
If money is no object, this is the softshell you want. More than just a softshell, it’s a versatile layer that serves you equally well on the rugged ridgeline as it does on errands around town. For the outdoor enthusiast who value versatility and performance, consider the price an investment in your adventure portfolio.

In terms of overall design our editors did have a few minor critiques. The recessed Lycra stretch cuffs with thumbholes not only added extra protection on crisp cold mornings, but ensured a seamless fit with gloves. When not in use however, the stretch cuffs felt long and we found ourselves constantly pushing them up on the wrist when handling rope and fine tuning our harness.

Lastly, while the Trenton offers massive versatility and worthy protection from the elements, the trade-off is a more weight and bulk. The Trenton tips the scales at a heavier weight than some of the other softshell offerings and doesn’t easily pack down when the weather turns and you need to pack away layers.

Bottom Line…
With an ideal balance of  water-resistance, breathability, and thermal protection the Trenton is the one jacket that’s as diverse as your daily adventures.
