KEEN Ambler Mesh

On December 21, 2012 the 5,125 year old Mayan calendar will suddenly come to an end. While many believe the end of this calendar signifies the end time, scholars have gone out of their way to assure us that the end of the Mayan calendar does not signify the end of the world.  Instead, they insist it is merely a misrepresentation of the ancient Mayan civilization.

The possibility that the world will end in December 2012 is indeed remote (we are keeping our fingers crossed just in case).  However, should that day come, it will be nice to know that if you’re wearing your Ambler Mesh shoes from KEEN to work, any fallen trees or boulders that come crashing into the office will be no match for these nimble low cut hikers.

Surviving the end of the world event- whether solar flares, earthquakes, floods or other natural disasters – won’t be easy. Thanks to a trimmed-down versatile design, the KEEN Ambler is equipped to go the distance and keep your feet light, airy and agile. All of which are helpful considering you’ll be forced to crawl under obstacles and hop, skip and jump over others that may lay in your path as you attempt to survive the pending worldly demise.

As you scramble down the street, you’ll be confronted with exploding fire hydrants and bursting water mains.  While the Ambler lacks a waterproof/breathable membrane, the upper with waxed suede trim will surprise you with how well it fends off the water as you make your way to higher ground.

And because the Mayan Sun god will be playing the wrath card, expect things to get plenty hot.  Solar flares will knock out smartphone service and melt down your favorite corner gelato spot, but at least the highly breathable mesh upper will keep your feet cool and ready to run.

The Ambler Mesh also features KEEN’s S3 (shock, suspension, stability) heel support structure, engineered to support the foot on impact, dissipate shock and reduce your odds of twisting an ankle.  Yet another feature that will come in handy considering that on the Mayan day of reckoning you’ll have to scramble across streets and sidewalks as they buckle and bulge underfoot.

Survival during the end of times will be long and difficult, and the comfort of your feet will be the last thing you should think about.  With a wide toebox and a heel-forming insert, your feet will be comfortable for extended periods of time whether you’re thinking about it or not.

Of course the Ambler Mesh also features KEEN’s legendary toe bumper so your toes have extra protection when the sky is falling.

*Note, our gumption field team tested the KEEN Ambler mesh shoes within the confines of Northern California’s wide array of trails, towns and taverns.  At no time were these shoes, nor their wearer subjected to actual Armageddon scenarios.  That being said, come December 21st, we’ll have the KEEN Ambler Mesh trail shoes on hand… just in case.

Bottom Line…
In the event the world does not come to an end in December 2012 and you need a solid and well-rounded hiker, the KEEN Ambler Mesh can surely tackle any trail you’ve got scouted out for your weekend getaway.  Then again, if the world does come to an end, rest assured that your feet will be ready and prepared for whatever obstacles you may encounter.
