Video: Scotty Vine Shred Session

posted by gumptiongear November 9, 2012 0 comments

SCOTTY VINE: Full Part from Snowboarder Magazine on Vimeo.

No matter how outside the box and seemingly impossible the trick, when Scott Vine sets his mind to doing something, the dude is gonna either do it or die trying. Seriously. When some riders do the one-foot schtick it gets construed as circus stunts, but Scott’s unstrapped antics are so big and smooth that you can’t do anything but respect the skill, style, and consequence. It is hard saying if we like the fs 180 one-footer on Boreal’s sixty-foot tabletop at the one minute mark or Scott’s FS 5 one-foot ender more, but either way they are both mint and a perfect gumption video.

Mission Accomplished Video: Red Bull Stratos & Felix Baumgartner World Record Free Fall

posted by gumptiongear October 19, 2012 0 comments

In a giant leap from more than 24 miles up, daredevil skydiver Felix Baumgartner, shattered the sound barrier Sunday while making the highest jump ever – a tumbling, death-defying plunge from a balloon to a safe landing in the New Mexico desert.

According to preliminary data, Baumgartner hit Mach 1.24, or 833.9 mph, and became the first person to reach supersonic speed without traveling in a jet or a spacecraft after hopping out of a capsule that had reached an altitude of 128,100 feet above the Earth. This video from Red Bull shows the journey… this might just be the most radical example of “gumption” ever undertaken.

Within Two Worlds Time-Lapse Film

posted by gumptiongear October 5, 2012 0 comments

“Within Two Worlds depicts an alternate perspective by giving us the illusion of times movement, signifying a beginning and end within a world of constant contradiction. It appears you are traveling in the midst of a dream, half-sleeping, half-waking, and touching the arch connecting heaven and earth.”

Inspired while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Brad Goldpaint shot this time-lapse film as a visual representation of how the night sky and landscapes co-exist within a world of contradictions.

posted by gumptiongear September 7, 2012 0 comments

Despite the underwhelming winter of 2011-12, in which snowfall reached near record lows and unstable avalanche conditions, the Powderwhores were able to make the most of the conditions at home and abroad, with trips to Cerro Castillo, Chile; La Grave, France; the Antarctic Peninsula; Svalbard, Norway; Mount Foraker, Alaska; British Columbia, Canada, and the Wasatch Mountains in Utah.

The film features an array of characters from salty backcountry veterans to some of the top skiers and snowboarders. More importantly, it will help fire up your winter stoke for the 2012-13 season! Let it snow!

EXISTENCE: A Timelapse Video Project

posted by gumptiongear August 31, 2012 0 comments

Entitled EXISTENCE and directed by Michael Shainblum, this short film is a statement not only about time and progression, but also a statement about the world we have created for ourselves.

The basis of the video contrasts the two extremes of life itself: the urban metropolis, and the beauty outside the city. May the video encourage you to spend a little more time outside this weekend and let your outdoor soul revel in beauty of the world around you.
